Ingredients

1. Dahlia 1/2 cup
2. Toor Dal 1/2 cup
3. Water 2 cups plus 1/4 cup
4. Ginger & green chilli minced 1 tsp
5. Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
6. Coriander powder(optional) 1/2 tsp
7. Ghee 1 tbsp
8. Onions 1/2 cup
9. Mixed Vegetables(carrots, green peas) 1/4 cup plus 1/4 cup
10. Tomatoes 1/2 cup finely chopped
11. Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
12. Pav Bhajj Masala 1/2 to 3/4 tbsp
13. Juice of 1/2 Lemon
14. Salt to taste
15. Hing a pinch
16. Coriander leaves a handful chopped

Method Of Preparation

1. Wash toor dal & daliya well in cold running water.

2. Soak in water for an hour.

3. In the meantime chop the veggies & keep them aside.

4. After an hour, add the daliya & dal along with water, turmeric powder & salt in a pressure cooker & cook for 10 minutes(approx)on low flame. When you open the cooker, the daliya & dal must have become nicely cooked & mushy.

5. In a heavy bottomed skillet, add ghee.

6. When it gets hot, add mustard & cumin seeds & hing. When it splutters add minced ginger & green chilli.

7. Then add onions.

8. When the onions turn translucent add tomatoes & salt.

9. When it turns soft & mushy add the vegetables(first add carrots, sauté for a while &other add green peas) & cook till they turn soft.

10. Then add chilli powder & Pav Bhajj masala.

11. Sauté for two minutes. Make sure u don't burn the mixture. Sauté on med-low flame.

12. Now add the daliya & dal mixture to this & sauté well.

13. Add 1/4 cup water & mix everything together.

14. When it starts boiling, add a tsp of ghee & give it a stir & then squeeze lemon juice & give it a mix & turn off the stove.

15. Garnish with coriander leaves.

16. Serve hot. You may add a dollop of ghee while serving.

Notes

1. I like toor dal more so added that. You may replace it with moving dal.

2. Do not miss to add Pav Bhaji masala.

3. don't add potatoes as it absorbs all the flavors & leaves the dish kinda bland.

4. This can also be given as a baby food by reducing the spices.

5. I did not add coriander powder. You may add it, if you wish to.

6. The dahlia will thicken a few hours after u cook, so don't make it too thick as it will solidify after sometime. So, make it a little runny & it also tastes good that way. I have added 1/4 cup of water. You may add more or less as per the consistency u want it to be.

7. The rice needs to be cooked well & mushy(for consistency, see picture #12)
